Dual-Level
Induction Lighting Fixtures
|
|
In many applications, lighting fixtures remain on 24/7
since HID lamps can not be turned on and off as needed, and dimming
the lamps is complex and costly. A lot of energy is wasted
lighting areas where people are not present simply so that
there will be light when its needed.
Our patent-pending
"dual-Level" fixtures address this problem and offer
significant energy savings. They operate at a low light
output in standby mode, then switch to full light output as needed
based on sensor input. With individual control of each fixture,
power savings can be increased by about 75% over conventional
HID lighting as only the necessary fixture(s) are activated
as needed.

Lights F.A.Q:
Q: What makes GreenTech lighting
fixtures different from others I have seen?
A: Our fixtures use a patent-pending dual lamp
design with a 360 degree sensor. Since people
are afraid of the dark (to a greater or lesser degree), the fixture
operates in a low-wattage mode continuously providing a low level of lighting
so that people do not have to enter a darkened space.
Once the sensor detects human activity, it instantly turns on
the high-wattage mode to provide normal light levels.
This approach saves energy as the fixtures are using minimal
power when the space is unoccupied, and only use full power
when people are present and the light is needed.
Q: I have lights like
this on my tennis court!
A: No you don't! Just because you have a
bight, white light, square fixture that looks like ours, does
not mean it uses our high efficiency, long lifespan, patent
pending technology. What you probably have is a Metal
Halide light that will last 10,000 hours of operation and which
is probably using 150~155% more power than a GreenTech fixture
to produce the same light levels. You will have to replace
the lamp in your tennis court light 8 to 10 times before you
have to replace ours once.
Q: I have seen other lighting
fixtures that get brighter when a sensor turns them on... How
are those different from GreenTech fixtures?
A: Those fixtures are using a "step dimming"
approach. Due to the limitations of conventional lighting
technology, high intensity discharge (HID) lamps generally can
only dim to around 50% of full output. Even the induction
lamp based fixtures with "step dimming" can only dim
to 50% of full output. Those fixtures uses a lamp
that is dimmed in standby mode and then comes up to full brightness
when needed - this only reduces the power consumption by around
50% when the fixture is in standby mode. Sometimes these
fixtures are controlled in zones or banks so that a number of
lights step to full power when triggered by the sensor.
Our fixtures use a high efficiency lamp reducing power consumption by 87% when in
standby mode. With high wattage mode in use as needed (only 50% of the time on average
- 50% duty cycle), power savings
are over 75%! Each GreenTech fixture is individually
controlled for further savings so that only the lights needed
are turned on to full power.
Q: How do GreenTech fixtures
save on maintenance costs?
A: We use long lifespan and energy efficient Induction
lamps as our primary light source. With a conversion factor
of 74~85 Lumens/Watt, the lamps produce more light with less
energy thus saving money. The 95,000~100,000 hour lifespan
of the main lamp means it will last 10 years reducing the frequency
of re-lamping and saving on maintenance costs - present technology
requires more frequent re-lamping.
Q: What are the energy
costs and savings from a GreenTech fixture if I had a parking
garage where there are 100 lights in operation 24/7?
A: The table below gives a comparison of the annual
costs of operation and maintenance of 175W Metal Halide (MH)
fixture, a 150W High Pressure Sodium (HPS) fixture, a 175W Metal
Halide lighting fixture using "step dimming" (MH S-D)

Q: But it costs money
to install GreenTech fixtures... What is the payback?
A: The energy and maintenance cost savings of 75%
(or more) on GreenTech fixtures is so high, that it is possible
to get a bank loan to install the lights and to repay the principal
and interest from the power savings and still have money left
over! The typical payback period is around 36 months
with power cost of $0.125 kWh - the higher your power cost,
the faster the payback.
